How can slope distance be used to get hor. distances and dh?

I don't speak German, so I don't know if this issue has been mentioned before in the forum. If that's the case, please point me to the topic.
Distance observations with a total station are slope distances, because that's what the total station measures directly. Using the vertical angle (zenith angle) of the specific observation we go from slope distance to horizontal distance. The vertical angle also must be used to get the dh from the telescope to the prism.
In JAD3D we can import slope distances, but without their corresponding azimuth angle. Azimuth angles are imported separately and as far as I understand are not linked to specific slope distances.
So how are slope distance measurements used to get dh and horizontal distance data? I mean without the azimuth angle we cannot use them to get horizontal and vertical distances. Am I missing something?
